Summary: Ford To Use Online Reality Show To Promote The Focus Electric
You won’t be able to catch it on network or cable, but if you have the internet, you’ll be able to watch the new Yahoo! and Ford joint reality project, “Plugged In”.
Ford is launching the electric version of the Focus (the Focus Electric) in May in California, New York and New Jersey, and will eventually expand the new plug-in’s availability to 19 markets by the end of the year. To try and find that millennial sweet-spot, the place of consumer vulnerability that most automakers have failed to locate in a generation feared to be car-independent, Ford is going where many millennials go; reality television.
Ford has teamed with Yahoo! for a “reality competition” online series, broadcast exclusively on Yahoo! Screen, to coincide with the Electric launch. “Plugged In” features two-person teams competing against each other for the chance to win a new Focus Electric. The competition roams through eleven U.S. cities, each featuring a hand-picked hometown personal insider who guides the contestants through the challenges in each metropolis. Winning teams from each city get to go to the finale, held in Los Angeles, with the winner driving off in an Electric.
Cities where the competition will be held include:
- New York
- Chicago
- Washington, D.C.
- San Francisco
- Seattle
- Austin
- Atlanta
- Raleigh
- Boston
Unfortunately, Ford says that casting is already underway for the show. I tried to find a link to pass on to those interested, but googling “plugged in casting” returned links that I didn’t have to click on to know what they were.
“Plugged In Cleveland” was high on the list, and after putting two and two together (Cleveland not being on the “Plugged In” list and another possible meaning for plugged), I decided to stop my search.
Are you searching for a new car? Well, that search ends here.
