Top Five Summer Cars

Unless you’re living in a state where you can see Russia from your house, you might have noticed the stifling temps of late. That would be an indication that summer has donned her bathing suit and is waving to us from the sand, and we must heed her call. That means driving around with the windows open, radio blaring, enjoying the sunshine and most importantly, the open road. With the possibility of the great American summer road trip before you, here are the top five summer cars.

Range Rover Sport#5 Summer Car - Range Rover Sport

One of the main points of appeal for any Range Rover is that you can take these suckers almost anywhere. And if your “anywhere” this summer involves national parks or mountaintop camping, then the Range Rover Sport is your summer vehicle, complete with the cargo space for all your gear. Since money is no object (in this blog post) the Range Rover is a luxury sport vehicle and therefore doubles as an excellent way to roll up to your family reunions looking like Brangelina.

#4 Summer Car - Fiat 500

The word “joyful” was tossed around by the Washington Post when they reviewed the Fiat 500, and it’s easy to see why – the thing is freakin’ adorable. At 6 inches shorter than the Mini Cooper, the Fiat still packs plenty of punch on the road, which means you’ll look sweet and still drive mean. Brilliant.

#3 Summer Car – Jeep Wrangler

Whenever I see a Jeep Wrangler, I always envision it being driven by some hot surfer dude, or a tan chick that plays beach volleyball. Someone who needs the space in the back to schlep their toys, but who also looks great with windblown hair. The Jeep Wrangler is a car full of the fun, athletic personality of the summer, which will automatically be transferred onto you while driving one around. Even if your most athletic feat to date is climbing into the car.

mini cooper cabrio#2 Summer Car - Mini Cooper Convertible

What could possibly be more summertime-y than a convertible? How about a Mini Cooper convertible? A few years back, my mother had one of these, which I used to swipe all the time, because it was just so much fun to drive. Another thing that makes this Tonka toy rank high on my list is that it gets 37 MPG highway, which means you can thwart high gas prices this summer and make it to Cali by July.

Nissan370Z#1 Summer Car - Nissan 370Z Coupe

A true sports car from Nissan, you say? I say yes! It’s true! And nothing will keep you looking flashier than the Nissan 370Z Coupe, except maybe the popsicle-envy shades it comes in. My personal favorite is Black Cherry, which will match the soda you have in your cup holder while you drive away, heads turning in your wake. Oh yeah, and this thing don’t drive half-bad, either. Its design may remind you of another flashy sports car, which is probably right on par – in its price class, the performance of the 370Z is unmatched.
