Last week we released a post revealing the most popular color requests for sports cars in the CarWoo! Marketplace. It turns out that many more sports car buyers are fans of the sleek and sexy, and non-light absorbing black than any other color. But do minivan buyers reflect the same trend? Not so much. 

Minivan buyers in the CarWoo! marketplace chose silver most often (maybe it’s just a more family-friendly version of black), followed by black and gray.  In fact, more than 50% of new minivan buyers chose one of of those three grayscale colors. So much for families preferring colorful vehicles. (For some reason, my personal Platonic ideal of a minivan is maroon, but only 6% of new minivan buyers are searching in this shade.)

I looked at requests for Dodge Grand Caravans, Honda Odysseys, Kia Sedonas, Toyota Siennas, and Chrysler Town & Country’s in the CarWoo! Marketplace.

Preferences for white and blue were actually pretty similar to sports car choices which were 12% and 14%, respectively, in that category. One of the biggest differences for this category occurs for poor red, which loses a lot of clout to maroon in minivans (I guess my Plantonic ideal isn’t completely misplaced). Tan also gets a pretty big jump in minivans – up to 4% of requests compared with .3% in sports cars. (I guess you wouldn’t want to blend in with the dust you’re kicking up with your hot rod…)
