Honda CR-V

The little crossover that could

Honda is looking to go all the way to the top with the 2013 version of their popular crossover.  Check it out and see if they’ve got what it takes.

Honda CR-V Trims and Feature Highlights

The Honda CR-V is a five passenger compact crossover SUV available in three trim levels for 2013: LX, EX, and EX-L.  All three trims come with a 185 horsepower 4-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive, and all feature an all-wheel drive option.

Standard tech features include Bluetooth, i-MID infotainment on a 5 inch LCD screen, and a rearview camera.  Dual-zone climate control, navigation, and a rear seat DVD entertainment package are also available for the EX-L CR-V.  Great fuel economy comes free of charge.

The 2013 CR-V starts at $22,695.

Honda CR-V Performance

The 2013 CR-V is handed a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower and 163 lb.-ft. of torque.  It’s controlled via a 5-speed automatic and standard front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available for all models.  An Eco Assist system also comes standard, which tells you all you need to know about Honda’s performance mindset: the CR-V is built to rack up MPGs, not quarter mile wins.

Honda CR-V Fuel Economy

The EPA estimates that 2013 CR-V models equipped with front-wheel drive will achieve 23 city and 31 highway MPG, for a combined number of 26.  Choose the all-wheel drive CR-V and lose just 1 MPG in each category for 22/30/25.

Honda CR-V Interior Highlights

CR-V’s cabin draws you in with its clean, attractive layout, though utility reigns overall.  Like the exterior, there’s not a lot of flash to be found, unless you count customizable wallpaper for the i-MID screen as extravagant.  But that’s OK, because you drive CR-V for its functionality, which is on display throughout most of the driver accessible functions- everything but the nav system tends to get a thumbs up.

Drivers should find comfort whether they adjust their seat position manually, or electronically inside EX-L trims.  And don’t let the compact designation fool you: CR-V offers a healthy 38.3 inches of rear legroom and plenty of wiggle room for shoulders.  The seats also have a one-touch folding option, creating easy stowing configurations.  You’ll get 70.9 cubic feet of total cargo space, which shrinks to 37.2 cubes with the rear seats upright.

Honda CR-V Safety

Every 2013 Honda CR-V comes with 4-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist, stability & traction control, and full-length side curtain airbags.  A rearview camera also comes standard, so there’s no excuse to put the back end into a shopping cart.

The 2013 CR-V receives nearly perfect crash test scores; NHTSA ratings warrant 5/5 stars overall, with scores of 5/5 for both frontal and side durability, and 4/5 for rollover damage.  The IIHS agrees, awarding CR-V a Top Safety Pick.

Honda CR-V Summary

The 2013 CR-V is all about substance.  Good handling, plenty of room, impressive standard tech, and some nice fuel numbers await, all for a quite stylish price too.
