Summer is already fading fast and drivers everywhere are getting restless. Maybe it’s the excitement of adventure, or possibly a side effect of heat stroke, but when people get bored they drive. Sometimes those drives end up becoming road trips, and as most of us know, these exercises into madness aren’t to be taken lightly. Like any trek into the wilderness, you need to be prepared. That starts with a solid check-off list of stuff you’ll probably need at some point along the dusty trail. After exhaustive research, I’ve come up with the ultimate road trip survival list as verified by Bear Grylls and the other guy that everyone says is more hardcore. Continue reading

Cool Cars for Summer
Will Smith may have famously sung about the glory days of summer back in the early ‘90s but it doesn’t help us much when we’re stuck in metal boxes that attract the heat like Marshawn Lynch on a Friday night. There are automakers out there who believe in creating a frosty sanctuary when temps get blazing, and I’ve come up with a few options that are worth checking out if you want to stay cool- and unlike that terrible John Travolta movie these selections are worth the price of admission. So grab some emergency Otter Pops and have a read. Continue reading

5 Of The Best Cars Not Sold In The US
Sometimes life isn’t fair
There are times when you simply have to accept the best of what’s around. We don’t get to say that much in the states, especially when it comes to our automobiles. America’s fixation with four wheels has always ensured a steady supply for our insatiable demand, but it’s a big world out there, and a few models manage to slip through the cracks every once in a while. Whatever the reasons – regulations, market, priority – it’s tough sometimes to just sit and glare at our overseas neighbors as they enjoy the spoils things we can’t have. Not unless you know a guy, at least. So, in no particular order… Continue reading
Some of the Indirect and Direct Costs of Electric Vehicles
The Ford Focus EV retails for $39,200. The Nissan Leaf starts at $35,200. The GM Volt (though equipped with a little gas engine that turns on when battery juice gets down) costs around $40k. Why do these new vehicles cost as much as tuition for a year at a private university, or $17,200 more than a gasoline-powered version of the car? (The Ford Focus is around $22,000, give or take for bells and whistles.) Continue reading
Car-Buying Advice to Ignore
In my experience, buying a new car is like preparing to have a baby – everyone who’s gone through it wants to offer you advice, even though every person’s experience is bound to be different. Not that these people aren’t well-meaning, they absolutely are, it’s just that buying a car is a unique undertaking, and is strongly influenced by your situation. Some of this advice might be on-point, and some may be a little misguided, although it’s hard to discern. For my last post as an official CarWoo! blogger, I’ll leave you with a little hard-earned wisdom about when not to pay attention to what people are telling you. Continue reading
New Car Buying Abroad
Here’s a situation: you need a new car, preferably something European, and you have been pining for a vacation abroad for some time. You also apparently have loads of money to spend at will. What do you do? Why not take care of everything at once and take a new car buying trip? Many auto manufacturers offer new car buying trips nowadays, and if you’ve got the time and means, I’d highly recommend it.
Here are some of your options. Continue reading
