Kia: A Wee Hiccup Won’t Sour the Grape
Or the apple, as in the Big Apple. The New York metropolitan area, that large swath of NYC, New Jersey and Connecticut, has 17,005 new Kias on its roads. From January to November last year, Kia sales increased 83 percentover 2010, allowing the South Korean automaker to boast that its cars are the hottest selling in terms of percentage increases. Kia’s national sales increased 54 percent. Poor, little old Lexus was the brand experiencing the biggest decrease in New York, dropping 22 percent from 2010, and 12 percent across America.
Alas, it’s not all sugar-coated ball bearings and gold-lined fuel injection systems for Kia. Optimas from 2006 through 2008 and Rondos from 2007-08 are being recalled due to a potential non-deploying driver-side airbag; 150,000 of these models have defective clock-spring assemblies in the airbag systems.
If you do have one of those discontinued Rondos, let me make a suggestion. Use CarWoo! to get yourself a new one, because unless you live in Williamsburg (aka Billysburg), it ain’t cool to drive around in discontinued rides (or in cars with the steering wheel on the right side) in the NYC metro.
Ya ain’t no hipster!
