Consumer Reports released its annual automaker ratings this week, and there was some reshuffling from past years. Honda, holding the top spot since 2008, dropped to fourth place, and was replaced by Subaru. The editors at Consumer Reports credited continuous model upgrades for Subaru’s ascension. Other highlights of the list include Volvo serving as the European leader at spot six, and Ford, GM and Chrysler unable to crack single digits, bringing up the rear. The rankings:
1) Subaru
2) Mazda
3) Toyota
4) Honda
5) Nissan
6) Volvo
7) Hyundai
8 ) BMW
9) Volkswagen
10) Ford
11) Mercedes Benz
12) General Motors
13) Chrysler
Maybe a better indicator of an automaker’s success (in the Consumer Reports world) is the Consumer Reports Top Ten List.
Out of the ten categories that CR picked a “best car of the year”, Toyota occupied five of the slots. Check it:
Family Sedan: Toyota Camry Hybrid
Sporty Car: Ford Mustang
Small SUV: Toyota RAV4
Affordable Family Sedan: Hyundai Sonata
Family Hauler: Toyota Sienna V6
Sports Sedan: Infiniti G
Green Car: Toyota Prius
Small Car: Subaru Impreza
