2012/2013 Chevrolet Traverse – Natural Progression

Everyone seems to be raving about this large-sized crossover called the Traverse, so it’s about time we highlight Chevy’s sleek & stylish people mover.  Besides, Traverse claims to be the best family vehicle out there, and what’s more important than family?  Take a look.

2013 Traverse Updates

Automakers’ version of the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ mantra is adjusted slightly to ‘if it works, copy it,’ and that’s what Chevy is doing with the 2013 Traverse.  Thankfully, it’s their design, so odds favor the new Traverse getting a lot right.  Here’s what to expect.

First of all, Chevy is keeping their tried and true 3.6 liter V6, so all the muscle heads still have something to complain about.  The rest of us will appreciate Traverse’s ability to haul most everything you own and a few extras with relative ease.

If you’re behind the wheel of a Traverse, you’re in it for the space, and things should remain cavernous.  Chevy still claims best in class cargo space, at just over 116 cubic feet, and room for eight is nothing to skim over, either.  There were grumblings about lower quality cabin materials, so Chevy aims to fix that by stocking 2013 Traverse with soft touch surfaces, chrome trim, and a 6.5 inch MyLink infotainment system up front.

Outside, things become ‘more athletic,’ as Chevy puts it, highlighted by a new grille design that fans of the brand will become more familiar with in the near future.

Help boost 2013 sales when the new Traverse enters the market oh so soon.

2012 Chevrolet Traverse

If you simply cannot wait, Chevy’s got you covered.  After all, 100,000 people a year can’t be wrong, right?  Here’s a look at what you’ll get with the 2012 Traverse, available whenever you want to pick it up.

Chevy offers the 2012 Traverse in LS, LT, and LTZ trims levels with a starting price just under $30,000.  Highlights include three usable rows for hauling people and a class leading 116 cubic feet of total cargo area, alongside top safety scores, and an all-around appeal built for family versatility.

Chevrolet Traverse Performance

Traverse comes with a 3.6 liter V6 that harnesses slight power differences, depending on the model.  LS and LT trims get a single exhaust setup that creates 281 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque; top level LTZ Traverse versions get a dual-exhaust system which brings totals to 288 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft.

Every Traverse receives a 6-speed automatic transmission and the choice between front-wheel or all-wheel drive.  You can also trailer up to 5,200 lbs. worth of stuff with either drivetrain.

Chevrolet Traverse Fuel Economy

FWD Traverse trims are given an EPA estimated 17/24/19 (city/highway/combined) MPG; AWD versions lose 1 city and 1 highway MPG each, but manage to hang on to the 19 combined average- that’s 16/23/19 for the visual among us.

2013 fuel numbers haven’t yet been officially announced, but don’t expect any changes.

Chevrolet Traverse Interior Highlights

Whatever the occasion, you’ll find room to get it done in comfort.  Here are a few numbers: seating for up to eight (seven with the 2nd row captain’s chairs), 116 total cubic feet of space, or 24 cubes with all seats in use.  And the third row still offers over 33 inches of leg room.  These things sell crossovers quickly.

Chevrolet Traverse Safety

Standard on all 2012 models are 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability/traction control, three-row side curtain airbags, and OnStar roadside/emergency services.  Rear park assist comes standard on LT and LTZ Traverse trims, and a rearview camera is available or standard on all trims but base LS.

Everyone agrees that 2012 Traverse is one of the safest family haulers available; NHTSA crash testing results in an impressive 5/5 stars overall and, yes, Traverse is also an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

Chevrolet Traverse Summary

Whether you’re buying now or waiting patiently for the 2013 model, Traverse offers the space you need with the style and grace befitting of a top line crossover.  It’ll be a welcome (and useful) addition to any family.
