Nissan pioneered the true first full-sized pickup from a non-American brand back in 2004.  Offering V8 power, good utility, and spacious dimensions, it surely looks the part on paper, but pickup wars are won outside in the elements.  Can the 2012 Nissan Titan keep up?

Take a look and decide for yourself.   If you want to save money on a new Titan, use CarWoo! today.

2012 Nissan Titan Trims and Features

The 2012 Titan comes in either King or extended Crew Cab trims; King Cab Titans come with a 6’6” standard bed while Crew Cab Titans come with either a 5’7” standard bed or a 7’3” long bed.  Titan offers four trims levels from here- S, SV, SL, and the off-road Pro-4X- although some trims are not available with certain cab/bed configurations.

Titan owners can also choose from a number of optional packages offering various upgrades based on appearance, increased tow capacity, sound system options, and cab trim/comfort levels.

Bed Utility

Titan owners can fit their beds with an available Utili-track Channel System, offering channels on the bed walls, header, and floor for cargo storage versatility.  The channels come with four movable aluminum cleats that lock in place wherever you need them.  Nissan also offers a spray-on bedliner for Titan, giving the bed added durability.

2012 Nissan Titan Performance

Every Titan is powered by a 5.6 liter V8 capable of 317 horsepower and 385 lb.-ft. of torque; the V8 is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission with a Tow/Haul mode.  When equipped with the Premium Utility Package ($1,910), the 4X2 SV King Cab Titan can haul up to 9,500 lbs. and handle a payload of 2,153 lbs. (Tow capacities and payloads differ depending on model chosen.)

Each Titan trim is available in either a rear (4X2) or all-wheel (4X4) drive.

Fuel Economy

Rear wheel drive Titans achieve an EPA estimated 13/18/15 (city/highway/combined) MPG while 4X4 Titans lose one MPG in each category and rest at 12/17/14.

Critics tend to agree that Titan’s King and Crew cabs offer good space and feature a simple, easy dash layout, though there’s lots of plastic surfacing.  For work-mode, Nissan gave the Titan a front passenger seat that folds flat into a mobile work surface.  Titan King Cab rear doors open up 168° for easy backseat access; the rear features a 60/40 split-folding bench seat that folds up to allow for a flat loading floor, and there’s no B-pillar to get in the way of larger items moving in and out.  Titan Crew Cab passengers get 41.8” of front legroom and 40.4” of rear legroom- Nissan is happy to point out that’s more than Ram and Silverado 1500 models.  Front seat passengers will appreciate the comfort of the available captain’s chairs as opposed to the 40/20/40 split bench standard on S and SV trims.

2012 Nissan Titan Safety

Anti-lock disc brakes, stability/traction control, and 6 airbags- including front side impact and side curtain bags- are all standards for Titan.  Governmental crash tests give 4X4 Titan 4/5 stars and 2X4 Titan just 3/5 stars for rollover accidents.  IIHS ratings give 2012 Titan a ‘good’ rating (highest overall) for frontal impacts and ‘acceptable’ (one place below good) for rollovers; 2011 Titans received ‘marginal’ marks for side impacts- just above poor for the B-pillar-less pickup.

Bottom Line

Critics will tell you that the 2012 Titan’s specified configurations are either going to appeal, or frustrate, if you can’t find an option that fits.  The same critics will also say that full-size pickup competitors offer more capability and options that appeal to a broader audience.  If the balance between work utility and everyday usability fits, perfect.  But the full-size segment offers a host of impressive options that are too good not to at least check out before pulling out the wallet.
