Does Lincoln’s contribution to the entry-level luxury market have enough to compete with the best of the staunch Euro class?  Take a look around, it’s all here.

Introducing the 2012 Lincoln MKZ. If you’re ready to buy a new MKZ right now, head on over to CarWoo!

Lincoln MKZ Trims And Features

Drivers can choose between a pair of V6 MKZ’s or a Hybrid model, both starting at $34,755.  With the V6, you’ll get either a front-wheel or all-wheel drive setup.  Many have pointed out that the 2012 MKZ is really an upgraded Ford Fusion, so expect carryover niceties like SYNC and MyKey, along with lux features like aluminum wheels, leather heated/cooled front seats, and an array of additional tech.  A nice way to show off said tech is with the Navigation Package, featuring voice activated nav. (of course), DVD capability, a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Crosstraffic alert, rearview camera, and THX surround sound audio.  Other options include a Sport Appearance Package that’ll add 18” aluminum wheels, sport-tuned suspension, and a specialized leather and aluminum interior trim.  Check out these features and everything else right now at Carwoo.

Lincoln MKZ Performance

Both front and all-wheel drive MKZ trims feature a 3.5 liter V6 engine capable of 263 horsepower and 249 lb.-ft. of torque.  The transmission for either is a 6-speed automatic with manual shift mode.  The MKZ Hybrid is front-wheel drive and comes with a 2.5 liter inline-4 engine paired with an electric motor for a total of 191 horsepower.  Drivers of the Hybrid get an electronic continuously variable transmission (e-CVT).

Lincoln MKZ Fuel Economy

The EPA has thrown out a couple of estimates for future MKZ owners: front-wheel V6 trims achieve 18/27/21 (city/highway/combined) MPG, while the all-wheel drive version drops to 17/24/19.  On the other end of the fuel spectrum, MKZ Hybrid take home 41/36/39 MPG.

Lincoln MKZ Interior Highlights

Space is king in the MKZ, even if said space isn’t filled with the same material decadence of upscale rivals.  With seating for five, MKZ offers a quiet, comfortable ride, and an upgraded version of the Fusion seems appetizing upon first taste, though names like Lexus, BMW, and Audi may offer a more fulfilling experience.  Not to say the MKZ’s cupboard is bare; luxuries like heated and cooled 10-way power front seats, Scottish leather (really), and SYNC connectivity should give front seat royalty the right touch of class.  If you are delegated to the rear seats, look for a suitable 36.7” of legroom.  Luggage space is also quite spacious at 16.5 cubic feet, but be warned that MKZ Hybrid’s capacity shrinks significantly to 11.8 cubes.

Lincoln MKZ Safety

MKZ standards include 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, stability/traction control, and 6 standard airbags, including 2 row side curtain bags.  MyKey also transfers over via the Ford connection, allowing heathen kids to be kept in check.   Extras worthy of consideration include rain sensing wipers, a rearview camera, and BLIS blind spot recognition with Crosstraffic Alert- available via the Navigation ($2,695) or Ultimate ($5,695) Package.  Government crash tests give the Lincoln a total of 4/5 stars, and the IIHS does one better by slapping MKZ with a 2012 Top Safety Pick.

MKZ -The Bottom Line

Does a redone Ford Fusion have enough to compete with BMW’s 3 Series, Mercedes’ C Class, or even the new kid Hyundai Genesis?  Well, that depends on how much you like the Fusion.  If you love it, look at that first.  If you need more luxury, the MKZ is ready and waiting.  If you do commit to the 2012 MKZ, the 39 MPG Hybrid is a compelling choice.  Become one with the 2012 Lincoln MKZ here, at Carwoo.
